Latvian-Australian artist Imants Tillers has been awarded one of Latvia’s highest state honours, Officer of the Order of the Three Stars. Latvia’s president Edgars Rinkēvičs presented the medal during an official ceremony at Riga Castle on Sunday May 4th, marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia. The Order of the Three Stars is awarded for exceptional merit in service to the Fatherland, including contributions to the state, local government, public, cultural, educational, scientific, sports, or economic activities.
Tillers received his award for ‘his outstanding contribution to the development of contemporary art and to the promotion of Latvia’s name worldwide.’
